What is it?
Reflexology or Zone Therapy as it used to be called, is a way of stimulating parts of the body. As the therapist works within each zone of the body, and there are 10 of them, everything within that zone is stimulated and thereby affected.
Although Reflexology is generally performed on the feet it can also be done on the hands, face and ears should the need arise e.g. foot infection occurs just before the treatment.
How it Works
The session usually starts with a gentle massage to warm the feet and to get the client used to the feel of someone working in this area. Often oil, cream or talcum powder is used but this depends on the therapists personal preferences and in some cases nothing is used. The therapist will then perform moves known as ‘walking’ over the sole of the foot, the side of the foot and the top of the foot with their thumb and fingers stimulating each area in turn, affecting muscles and organs of the body.
